Rosy’s story
Rosy Emilia Juárez Ixcol is one of four children. Like the families of all the children we provide with school supplies, Rosy's family lives in extreme poverty. Their house is made of found materials, old sheet metal, and wood. She lives in the same village that Michelle and Elvia recently visited to teach English.
Despite her family's difficult circumstances, Rosy is an alert child. She is very open, friendly, and curious. Her mother is a housewife and takes care of the children, while her father works on a macadamia plantation, earning about $150 per month, which the family of six must live on. This situation is common for almost all families living in this area of Guatemala.
On the one hand, this means that parents often cannot adequately feed their children. One consequence of this is malnutrition, which can have serious effects on the immune system, general body functions, and in the worst case, lead to kidney failure if left untreated.
Many families in this region live under precarious circumstances.
On the other hand, it means that parents cannot afford school supplies for their children. In most cases, children are then sent to work to generate additional income for the family.
Fortunately, thanks to our school supplies and education program, Rosy has been able to attend school for a year now. She enjoys learning very much, and her dream is to become a teacher one day to be able to support her family.
Rosy was very happy when she received her school supplies.
If this story touched you and you would like to help us make her dream come true, you can make a donation of school supplies or sign up for sponsorship to ensure her school attendance for a whole year.
We are grateful for every donation!
